Hair by Guido Palau, REDKEN Creative Consultant
Redken Creative Consultant Guido muted the hair this season, in order to create a more homogenous runway look. The simplicity of the hair, which was pulled back into a low ponytail and finished with a basic black headband, emphasized cohesion over individuality. By minimizing the unique personalities of each model, Guido enabled Victoria Beckham to communicate her design aesthetic in a clear and concise manner.

Guido Palau:
"Overall it's a very minimal aesthetic, a very clean and modern look for Victoria Beckham. She wanted the hair to emphasize uniformity on the runway, which is why I pulled the hair away from the face and secured it with a basic black headband. In a way, this look is modernly classic."

ALBERTA FERRETTI - Milan Fashion

Redken Creative Consultant Guido refrained from hairspray altogether at Alberta Ferretti, opting for a more undone look this season. Instead, Guido applied guts 10 root targeted volume spray foam to create as much natural texture and volume as possible. Before loosely braiding the hair, Guido used a curling iron around the hairline to create even more volume.

Guido Palau:
“The messy structure of the braid resembles a hairstyle one might imagine a peasant girl wearing during the Renaissance. While the look itself is quite simply, the style is soft and very romantic."

REDKEN Products Used:
- guts 10 root targeted volume spray foam
- iron shape11 finishing thermal spray
- wax blast 10 high impact finishing spray-wax

ALEXANDER WANG – NY Fashion Week Spring 2014

Redken Creative Consultant Guido fused glamour with grunge at the Alexander Wang show this season to create a nonchalant, yet sexy runway look. By adding thickening lotions and texturizers to the hair, Guido created volume without altering the model's natural texture with teasing or heat styling.

Guido Palau:
"Overall it's a very sexy look this season. I wanted the hair to reflect the cool, low-key Alexander Wang type girl. I suppose there are equal parts grunge and glamour, in that the hair is voluminous, yet natural."

REDKEN Products Used
- powder refresh 01 aerosol hair powder/dry shampoo
- quick tease 15 backcombing finishing spray

DIESEL BLACK GOLD – NY Fashion Week Spring 2014

Redken Creative Consultant Guido kept the hair soft and feminine this season with a simple, yet classic French braid at Diesel Black Gold. To soften the style, Guido loosened the hair around each model's face, making the look feel more romantic. The dampness of the braid introduces a beachlike element to the overall style, making the look more casual and accessible for the everyday woman.

Guido Palau:
"I wanted the hair to be simple and quite feminine for Diesel Black Gold. I love a simple braid, in that the style is both elegant and wearable for most women. For me, a braided look will always be fashionable."

REDKEN Products Used:
- outshine 01 anti-frizz polishing milk

DIOR – NY Fashion Week Spring 2014

Redken Creative Consultant Guido created a modern hairstyle for Dior that relied heavily on three key products: shine flash 02 glistening mist, hardwear 16 super strong gel, and control addict 28 high control hairspray. The sleek chignon was coated, combed and sprayed to create an almost sculptural finish to the hair.

Guido Palau:
"The hair this season is without reference. It isn't from a particular era, which I love because it makes the look feel instantly modern and fresh. The style is chic, beautiful and a bit boyish. It is a classic Dior look."

REDKEN Products Used:
- shine flash 02 glistening mist
- hardwear 16 super strong gel
- control addict 28 high control hairspray

DOLCE & GABANNA – NY Fashion Week Spring 2014

Redken Creative Consultant Guido delivered, as one might expect from Dolce & Gabbana, classically beautiful hair. The style was ultra-feminine, with a soft braided updo pinned with gold coins, flowers and other equally ornate hair accessories, specially selected by the designers. While the hair was not adorned uniformly, the overall Romanesque look was exquisite.

Guido Palau:
"The girls always look ultra-beautiful for Dolce & Gabanna. Keeping with the brand's Italian heritage, I found myself drawing inspiration from classic Italian cinema. Fellini's work was definitely an inspiration for this season. The soft braided updo with the delicate hair accessories is very old world and romantic. Overall, the style is soft, pretty and classically beautiful. It is also flattering on most women, which is wonderful, since women tend to be drawn to the Dolce & Gabanna look each season."

REDKEN Products Used:
- guts 10 root targeted volume spray foam
- powder refresh 01 aerosol hair powder/dry shampoo

JEAN PAUL GAULTIER – NY Fashion Week Spring 2014

Redken Creative Consultant Guido created an assortment of styles for Jean Paul Gaultier, ranging from soft and natural hair to beehive updos. Naturally, the Redken styling products used are as varied as the cast of characters created.

Guido Palau:
"Overall, the look is simple and natural with the exception of a few extreme characters scattered into the lineup. The show was inspired by dancing with the stars, so we recreated recognizable celebrity hairstyles for certain girls. Jean Paul Gaultier always does his own unique take on fashion, and the hair is consistent with his vision."

JIL SANDER – NY Fashion Week Spring 2014

Redken Creative Consultant Guido kept the hair minimalistic and modern this season, drawing inspiration from the designer herself. He used satinwear 02 prepping blow-dry lotion to create a polished and soft texture to the hair. Guido further softened the low ponytail by loosening a few strands of hair around the model's face. By slightly disrupting this otherwise pulled together look, Guido introduced an element of fragility to the models as they took to the runway.

Guido Palau:
"I wanted the hair to be consistent with Jil Sander's design aesthetic, so I took a more architectural approach to hair design this season. I avoided hard lines and angles to keep the look pure and soft. The low, sleek ponytail pulled the style together in a sophisticated Jil Sander kind-of-way."

REDKEN Products Used:
- satinwear 02 prepping blow-dry lotion
- all soft argan-6 oil

LANVIN – NY Fashion Week Spring 2014

Redken Creative Consultant Guido created an easy, carefree look for Lanvin by exposing the models' natural textures and cuts on the runway. Instead of adding hair extensions, which tends to standardize the style, Guido kept it real and styled the models' hair according to their own cut and texture. Regardless of the variation of hairstyles on the runway, all the models perfectly captured the intended ease of the style.

Guido Palau:
"I created a very simple look again. I say again, because simplistic hair seems to be a recurring style this season. I wanted the hair to be natural and somewhat bedhead like in appearance for Lanvin. The look is meant to seem like you haven't tried at all."

REDKEN Products Used:
- guts 10 root targeted volume spray foam
- quick tease 15 backcombing finishing spray
- wax blast 10 high impact finishing spray-wax

LOUIS VUITTON – NY Fashion Week Spring 2014

Redken Creative Consultant Guido styled the hair, not as an extension of the headdress, but rather in opposition to it. The messy hair poking out of the headpieces suggest that the girls are not authentically fanciful, but simply playing dress up in a spectacular production.

Guido Palau:
"It's a very stylized look, which is fitting for Marc Jacobs. I wanted the hair to be in a messy knot to offset the richness of the headdress. The hair is youthful and playful, whereas the feathered headpieces are quite heavy and exotically ornamental."

REDKEN Products Used:
-full frame 07 protective volumizing mousse
-quick dry 18 instant finishing spray

MARC BY MARC JACOBS – NY Fashion Week Spring 2014

Redken Creative Consultant Guido took the models from day to night, creating an evening look that one might expect to see backstage at a rock concert. While the Redken styling products produced a heavier look and feel, Guido made sure to add some subtle movement back into the look by bending the hair over a curling iron.

Guido Palau:
"The look encompasses a grungy, cool girl style; however, she has a certain European sensibility to her. I felt the hair needed to be rock-and-roll chic, but in a nighttime way. Working with oil-based products and texturizers really helped to achieve that heavier, night time feel."

REDKEN Products Used:
- satinwear 02 prepping blow-dry lotion
- diamond oil shatterproof shine
- powder refresh 01 aerosol hair powder/ dry shampoo

MARC JACOBS – NY Fashion Week Spring 2014

Redken Creative Consultant Guido aligned the hair this season with the youthful, carefree style of Marc's collection. Once the wigs were lightened, Guido's team went back and darkened the roots to replicate regrowth. From the color to the choppy, somewhat messy cut, this look screams youthful nonconformity at its best.

Guido Palau:
"Why wigs? I suppose Marc and I really liked the uniformity that only wigs can create on the runway. This look was designed to encompass the type of free-spirited girl that Marc loves and ultimately designs for. She is somewhat punk and boyish, which is why the wig is bowl-shaped and asymmetrically cut around the face. It is almost as if she took the scissors to her own hair, completely confident and entirely in tune with her own personal style."

REDKEN Products Used:
- guts 10 root targeted volume spray foam
- control addict 28 high hold hairspray
- forceful 23 super strength finishing spray

MARGIELA – NY Fashion Week Spring 2014

Redken Creative Consultant Guido continued with the natural, grunge trend at Margiela. While the back section was pulled up into a messy updo, the overall look was meant to be unrefined and a bit unruly. To maintain the model's natural texture, Guido did a dry style with shine flash 02 glistening mist and control addict 28 high hold hairspray to create this unpolished look.

Guido Palau:
"The hair was natural and grungy for Margiela. There wasn't really an inspiration for the look; however, I knew that I wanted a messy, undone look for this show. The hair was pulled up in the back because I didn't want to conceal the backs of the clothes."

REDKEN Products Used:
- shine flash 02 glistening mist
- control addict 28 high control hairspray

PRADA – NY Fashion Week Spring 2014

Redken Creative Consultant Guido used guts 10 root targeted volume spray foam to create a light texture to the hair this season. Guido kept the hair low-key and simple, making the Prada girl appear unintentionally stylish and cool. Unlike many shows this season, Guido did not add movement back into the hair. Instead, Guido created a low-cut across the forehead to simulate a more youthful look. In order to further unify the girls, each models' hair was colored to create a flat, monotone color scheme. While there are still variations in color, from blonde to red to brown to black, the colors themselves are muted. Guido didn't want multidimensional haircolor on the runway, in that he wanted an element of artificiality."

Guido Palau:
"The hair is true Prada hair, in that the style is a bit school girlish, yet the overall look is quite strong. There is nothing extreme about the color, cut, length or style. Moreover, the Prada girl is by no means sweet and innocent. I suppose there is almost a gang-like mentality to this look. These girls project an exclusive consortium, in that they are all effortlessly chic."

REDKEN Products Used:
- color extend shampoo
- color extend conditioner
- guts 10 root targeted volume spray foam

RAG & BONE – NY Fashion Week Spring 2014

Redken Creative Consultant Guido kicked off Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2014 with a fresh and more modern interpretation of the quintessential downtown chic look we know so well. Guido created a simply, yet stylized look by juxtaposing a clean, shellacked finish on top with a more natural and soft finish throughout the ends.

Guido Palau:
“I wanted to take the Rag & Bone girl and give her a bit more style. By adding different textures and products in the hair, and by using them a bit more extremely, I was able to create a modern element to this more natural, grunge look.”

REDKEN Products Used:
- color extend shampoo
- color extend conditioner
- guts 10 root targeted volume spray foam

RALPH LAUREN – NY Fashion Week Spring 2014

Redken Creative Consultant Guido kept the hair free flowing and down this season to reinforce the ultra-glam style of the collection. To keep the look soft and light, Guido prepped the hair with satinwear 02 prepping blow-dry lotion and finished with a drop of diamond oil shatterproof shine to add richness and shine to the ends.

Guido Palau:
"There was a departure this season from the tradition low-ponytail that one has come to expect at this show. This season, I wanted to incorporate the 60s style icons that have been so influential to Ralph Lauren throughout his fashion career. I supposed the best descriptors for the hair would be nonchalant glamour."

REDKEN Products Used:
- satinwear 02 prepping blow-dry lotion
- diamond oil shatterproof shine

REED KRAKOFF – NY Fashion Week Spring 2014

Redken Creative Consultant Guido expanded upon the basic low pony by adding congruent, deep side parts to each model's hairline. Such clean lines, separated and smoothed with a fine-toothed comb, juxtapose the natural hair left to air dry below.

Guido Palau:
"It was important for the look to encompass visually interesting and modern elements; however, the overall direction needed to remain relatable.Yes, the look is simple, but what I really want you to take from this season is the wearability of the hair that is so prevalent in New York fashion."

REDKEN Products Used:
- guts 10 root targeted volume spray foam
- diamond oil shatterproof shine

ROBERTO CAVALLI – NY Fashion Week Spring 2014

Redken Creative Consultant Guido continued to work with natural textures at Cavalli; however, he created a bit more style by using three key products to accentuate elements of shine and control. Once the hair was prepped to dry naturally with diamond oil shatterproof shine, Guido generously applied shine flash 02 glistening mist to flatten the top and boost shine from root to ends. To lock in the look, Guido finished with control addict 28 high hold hairspray.

Guido Palau:
"I wanted to juxtapose the ornate Cavalli collection with a more simple and natural hairstyle. I'm finding that perfectly blown-out hair tends to feel so old fashion and tired on the runway. Right now, it is chic and cool to have a non-caring attitude towards one„s hairstyle. This doesn't mean that you should neglect the condition, color or cut of your hair.
In fact, when you style your hair naturally, one must visit the salon even more regularly. While the style itself is anti-salon, in that it isn't a look you would necessarily leave a salon with, the end result is heavily dependent upon regular salon visits. "

REDKEN Products Used:
- diamond oil shatterproof shine
- shine flash 02 glistening mist
- control addict 28 high control hairspray

SACAI – NY Fashion Week Spring 2014

Redken Creative Consultant Guido created a look for Sacai consistent with the natural hair trend that has pervaded the runways in New York, Milan and Paris. By adding all soft argan-6 oil to the hair, Guido made the natural style feel a bit more uxurious.

Guido Palau:
"I wanted to start with gorgeous clean hair, so I had the hair washed with pure moisture shampoo and conditioner. I added a drop or two of all soft argan-6 oil and roughly dried the hair with my fingers, allowing the hair to dry quickly while still maintaining a natural look and feel. Natural hair is definitely a key trend this season"

REDKEN Products Used:
- all soft argan-6 oil

VALENTINO – NY Fashion Week Spring 2014

Redken Creative Consultant Guido created a regal look for the Valentino show by seamlessly incorporating the decorative headband into the hairstyle, making it seem as if the accessory was a part of the hair. To give the style a flawless finish, Guido used forceful 23 super strength finishing spray to smooth any remaining flyaways. The looked is polished and impeccable, just like the Valentino woman.

Guido Palau:
"The look is always very beautiful for Valentino; however, I wanted the overall style to be a bit more severe than at previous shows. The austere ponytail and the ornate Valentino headband were intended to create an operatic theme to the finished look."

REDKEN Products Used:
- satinwear 02 prepping blow-dry lotion
- forceful 23 super strength finishing spray

VERSACE – NY Fashion Week Spring 2014

To amplify the natural texture of the hair, Redken Creative Consultant Guido applied powder refresh 01 aerosol hair powder/dry shampoo to create a laid-back, yet clearly articulated rocker-chick look. This California cool hairstyle, reminiscent of the late 80s LA rock scene, works seamlessly with Versace's Spring Summer 2013 collection.

Guido Palau:
"The look this season was inspired by the late 80s and early 90s rock and roll scene in Los Angeles. For example, Axl Rose immediately came to mind when I started to conceptualize the hair for Versace. I intentionally styled the models' hair to be a bit androgynous, which makes the sexy rocker-chic look, which Versace does so well, all the more interesting."

REDKEN Products Used:
- diamond oil shampoo
- diamond oil conditioner
- thickening lotion 06 body builder
- powder refresh 01 aerosol hair powder /dry shampoo

VICTORIA BECKHAM – NY Fashion Week Spring 2014
